About Network Database System for Thermophysical Property Data
So far, a plenty of material / matter databases have been developed, but those databases are so called databases. In those databases, it was general that only one organization that played a roll as a data center collects, deals with all transaction to register, to administrate, to supply data.
The other hand, NMIJ (National Metrology Institute of Japan) suggests a concept of "Network Database System for Thermophysical Property Data", in which each institute that supplies data is responsible for its own thermophysical property database continuously and user can access to each database by one client interface "InetDBGV" through internet. And NMIJ has been developing the database that unifies each database and holds thermophysical properties like thermal conductivity, thermal diffusivity, specific heat, emissivity and so on.
This is based on the research achievements of "Research on Prototype Thermophysical Property Database System", one of the task of "Research on Measurement Technology and Reference Materials for Thermophysical Properties of Solids" which was supported by the Special Coordination Funds from Science and Technology Agency (Special Coordination Funds for Promoting Science and Technology) during 5 years from 1997 to 2001.
Characteristics
Hierarchical classification of materials
Materials are displayed in a tree structure and we have been hierarchically classified and recorded under our rules. If you have an understanding of the characteristic of materials, you can access the material you want to see through the tree structure.
Access control by user and project
Data recording in collaboration with our institute is our basic principle. Collaborative researchers and registranted users are assigned a individual user account. We control access to our property data by individual user accounts and data projects to ensure data security.
Property data
The information of table data, equation data, reference, measurement instrument or technique and uncertainty can be recorded for each property data. Some data sources may not be fully recorded these information. Property data with variable can be displayed a graph to visually grasp.
Units
We standardize the units in SI units as far as possible. Such as spectrum data, only when its characteristic is easier to understand if we make exception, we use the units other than SI units.
Search functions
It is possible to search data by material names, chemical formula, specifying the range of property and their logical operations.
Browsing systems
There are two ways to browse our database. One is by using web browser, and the other is by using the exclusive software InetDBGV. Browsing system using web browser provides the functions described above and can be used without user registration. Exclusive software InetDBGV requires user registration, and its functions are more enhanced than the system using web browser such as plotting multiple data sets on one graph and search by property range.
Network of our database
The organizations that are involved in the thermophysical property database own the data that each organization is charged in, they are responsible for registration, update of thermophysical property data.
